An Original Vintage English Campaign Book (measures 9 1/2" x 12 1/4" [24 x 31 cm]; 24 pages) (Learn More) United Artists Talking Pictures 1929-30, the 1929 English campaign book featuring full-page ads for upcoming United Artists films that were about to be released in England, including Erich von Stroheim's Queen Kelly (which was apparently going to be a "musical", because it says that Gloria Swanson is "talking and singing" in it, but of course, the movie was never released!). Other movies include Mary Pickford in Coquette, Douglas Fairbanks in The Iron Mask, John Barrymore in Ernst Lubitsch's Eternal Love, D.W. Griffith's Lady of the Night, and Ronald Colman in Bulldog Drummond. The main thrust of all the advertising is that all of these movies are in sound, and that is heavily advertised in each ad. We have only auctioned this English campaign book once, and a French one from the same year, but that French one does not mention sound, and we imagine there was almost surely a U.S. one like the English one that promotes their talking pictures, but we have never auctioned a U.S. version of this book! Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this English campaign book (it is the one example of it referred to in the description above)! Condition: good to very good. There are a few small stains scattered on the back cover and a light diagonal crease in the top left corner of the cover, with a faint line of discoloration down the center of the front cover. Otherwise, the book is in really nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
