Date Sold 7/16/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical English Movie Pressbook (English pb; measures 10" x 15" [25 x 38 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) Charlie Chan's Courage, the 1934 Eugene Forde & George Hadden detective mystery crime thriller ("Words of wisdom his only weapons!"; "Based on novel 'The Chinese Parrot,' by Earl Derr Biggers", which had been the source novel of the 1927 Paul Leni silent Chan movie of that name, and this was a sound remake with a different actor in the lead role) starring Warner Oland (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Drue Leyton, Donald Woods, Murray Kinnell, and Paul Harvey. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this English pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this English pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. There is slight darkening in two borders on the front cover, as well as some minor smudges and scuffs on both covers.
