An Original Vintage Folded French Political Campaign Poster (measures 25 1/4" x 33 1/2" [64 x 85 cm]) (Learn More) Les Paysans de France (literally translates to "The Peasants of France"), the 1937 French political poster (with a tagline that translates to "Whose creative work makes the country prosperous.") encouraging farmers to vote for the Parti Communiste Francais. The French Communist Party (Parti Communiste Francais or PCF) is a communist party in France that was founded in 1920. Although its electoral support has declined in recent decades, the PCF retains a strong influence in French politics, especially at the local level. Note that the art behind the man with the scythe is a homage to a Jean-Francois Millet painting titled The Gleaners (about the centuries-old right of poor women and children to remove the bits of grain left in the fields following the harvest).
