eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 4d0104 MONTE CARLO LC 1930 worried Jeanette MacDonald & Jack Buchanan by mirror, ultra rare! Date Sold 4/16/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Monte Carlo, the 1930 Ernst Lubitsch musical mistaken identity romantic gambling comedy ("By Ernest Vajda From 'The Blue Coast' by Hans Mueller and an episode from 'Monsieur Beaucaire' by Booth Tarkington and Evelyn Greenleaf Sutherland"; about a poor girl in Monte Carlo who poses as a wealthy woman and the rich man who poses as her personal assistant, which encompasses being a butler and a hairdresser, skills that he does not have, but he will gladly fake, because he wants to be close to her; their relationship is complicated by the very rich man who will accept her on any terms!) starring Jack Buchanan (incorrectly billed on the herald as "James Buchanan"!), Jeanette MacDonald, Claud Allister, Zasu Pitts, Tyler Brooke, and Frances Dee (in an early uncredited role as the receptionist!). Note that Ernst Lubitsch is well known for his masterful early 1930s movies with their perfect blend of comedy and romance that was called "The Lubitsch Touch", but many fans are unacquainted with this movie. If you haven't seen this delightful movie, do so now! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a jumbo lobby card, a pressbook, a herald and a few stills from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we were consigned a complete set of 8 lobby cards, and we are now auctioning each card in 8 separate auctions. We are "breaking up" the set for two reasons. The first is because it is likely that virtually no collectors currently have a card from this great movie, and by breaking up the set, 8 different collectors can end up with a card, rather than one collector purchasing the whole set. But also, in something that is VERY unusual with lobby cards from the 1920s and 1930s, SIX of the cards have images of the two lead stars together, and all of them are very desirable, so that is another good reason to auction them separately (especially because it may be many years, if ever, before we get another card from this movie). Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good. This card and the other seven cards from this set (which we are auctioning in separate auctions), were found together in their brown bag (which we are also separately auctioning). Each is in really nice condition. Each has slight darkening, typical of Paramount lobby cards of this period. This card has a 1 1/2" tear with surface paper loss in the left border, slightly extending into the orange background. There is an unevenness to the printing in the top border at far left. Note that this card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
