An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Stage Play Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 40 3/4" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Intruder, the circa 1920s crime gangster/cowboy western(!) stage play ("A powerful comedy drama of the East & West"; "The love and romance of an outlaw"; "by Robert J. Sherman"; "NOT A MOVING PICTURE"; judging by the poster, it is apparently about a big city criminal who "goes west" and interacts with western outlaws!). Robert J. Sherman was a very prolific playwright beginning in 1915, and after a three year service in World War I, he resumed writing plays, with at least 52 to his credit, and several were quite successful, with many different productions of them in various cities. He specialized in comic melodramas that satirized elements of then current society. Because this poster comes from a Kansas City litho company, we think it is quite likely this was from a Kansas City production of this play. Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had some stains in the right border and some tears and tiny paper loss in the borders. There were some creases and scuffs scattered in the image. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting (and a talented restorer could touch them up without re-backing the poster).
