An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style C One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Goodbye, Mr. Chips, the 1939 Sam Wood (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) teacher romantic melodrama ("'The best picture of any year'"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about the career of a wonderful English public school teacher who devotes his life to his pupils) starring Robert Donat (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Mr. Chips), Greer Garson (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; in her first movie role!), Terry Kilburn, Paul Henreid, and Judith Furse NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this style C has an image that most collectors much prefer to that of the style D! Also note that because this item was glued to cardboard after it was backed (see below) it will need to be sent in a very large package that measures approximately 29" x 43" so bear this added expense in mind before bidding. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had some tears and small paper loss on parts of some folds with greater paper loss in the right of the top fold, entering the edge of Garson's hair. It also had stains in the top right around the end of Donat's credit. Someone had the poster linenbacked, (by someone who performed pretty amateur restoration) and they gave it to a framer. That framer did not know how to frame linenbacked posters, and they glued it to a cardboard backing prior to framing it and they wrapped the front excess linen around a stretcher. It has been removed form the stretcher, and someone tried to remove the cardboard that is glued to the back, but they only removed a small portion of it. Therefore the poster can't be rolled in its present state and will need to be send in a very large flat package (see above). Certainly it would be wise to have the poster removed from the old linen and properly re-restored, but bear this expense (and the cost of shipping in a very large flat package) in mind before bidding on this poster.
