An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla (released in other English-speaking countries as "Monster Meets The Gorilla"), the 1952 William Beaudine New York City science fiction (sci-fi) horror comedy ("Brooklyn chumps become island monkeys in a jungle full of laffs!"; "A horror film that will stiffen you with laughter!"; "A jungle full of Bali-laffs!!") starring Bela Lugosi, Duke Mitchell, Sammy Petrillo (Mitchell and Petrillo are billed as "Introducing Duke Mitchell, Sammy Petrillo"), Charlita, Muriel Landers, Ramona The Chimp, Ray Corrigan, and Steve Calvert (both Corrigan and Calvert were uncredited, but they shared the title role as the gorilla, wearing Corrigan's gorilla costume!). Note that Mitchell and Petrillo were intended to be an imitation of Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin (and Petrillo was even a Jerry Lewis lookalike), but their career really went nowhere! Also note that Crash Corrigan made a REALLY wise investment in the 1930s, when he bought a "gorilla suit". In many of the movies in the 1940s where there is a fake gorilla, it is played by Crash Corrigan, no doubt because he could supply the suit, and in this one movie, he also loaned his suit to Calvert, who used it in 11 other movies, playing uncredited gorillas! Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had creases, smudges, and tears around the edges, with some extending into the image and some tiny paper loss in parts of the borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame.
