eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 4b486 HEROES OF THE ALAMO lobby card '37 Lane Chandler, cool image of Texans making last stand! Date Sold 3/3/2009Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Heroes of the Alamo, the 1937 Harry L. Fraser (billed as "Harry Fraser") historical Texas War of Independence cowboy western ("A spectacular epic of the birth of Texas"; "Slaughtered to the last man that an empire might be born!"; "A Cast of Famous Historical Characters"; "Anthony J. Xydias Presents Heroes of the Alamo") starring Bruce Warren, Ruth Findlay, Lane Chandler (as Davy Crockett), Rex Lease (as William B. Travis), Roger Williams (as Col. James Bowie), Julian Rivero (as General Santa Anna), Lee Valianos, Edward Piel (as Sam Houston), and Earl Hodgins (as Stephen Austin). Note that this movie was made in 1937 by Sunset Productions of Hollywood, California, and it received a small distribution to theaters by that company. In early 1938, Columbia Studios purchased the movie, and released it worldwide with all new posters (with no mention of Sunset Productions), and they even changed the order of billing of the stars, both on the posters and on the actual print of the movie that played in theaters (the movie has a major subplot involving Bruce Warren and Ruth Findlay, as non-famous people of the time, and Columbia wanted to focus on the famous characters in the movie, so they took away Warren and Findlay's billing!; they went from top billing on the Sunset release to NO billing on the Columbia release, and yet the movie was unchanged, except for the billing at the start of the film!)! Technically, the Columbia movie paper on this title is a re-release, but because of the special circumstances, many collectors would consider both releases as "original". NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this movie was released in August of 1937 by Sunset Productions. It was purchased by Columbia Pictures and then released by them with a new ad campaign in February of 1938. This item is from that 1938 Columbia release of this film! Condition: good. There is a red paint stain at center. There is some rippling and discoloration throughout the card from exposure to moisture. Learn More about condition grades
