An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (11x14; LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Marines are Coming, the 1934 David Howard United States Marine Corps (USMC) military south-of-the-border romantic love triangle military action war melodrama (Haines is a Marine Lieutenant who always gets in trouble, and he has a rivalry with a "by-the-book" Captain, and he steals the Captain's girl and marries her; but he gets in a drunken fight in a casino in Tijuana, Mexico while with an old girlfriend, and his wife leaves him, and he resigns from the Marines, but later reenlists as a Private; he is sent to serve in Mexico, and by an amazing coincidence, he is under the command of his old rival, the Captain, but he ends up catching a bunch of bandits and becomes a hero) starring William Haines, Esther Ralston, Conrad Nagel, Armida, Edgar Kennedy, and George Regas. Note that William Haines was the most famous "in the closet" gay film star of the silent and early sound era. He refused to hide his homosexuality, and he left the movie business at the height of his career and became a famous interior decorator, and he stayed with his lover, Jimmie Shields, for the next 50 years. This movie was his very final movie. We wonder if he was cast as a tough Marine entangled with two different women in order to help hide his homosexuality (if so, it obviously didn't work!). Note that this lobby card is in excellent condition and is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back of the card! Learn More about condition grades
