Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey, the 1970s commercial reproduction circus poster. In the early 1970s Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey began reproducing many of their historic posters. These reproductions were sold at the concessions stands on the traveling shows, by mail as advertised in the souvenir program books, and they were also sold in the gift shops at their theme park in central Florida near Disney World. The modern version of the circus started in 1919 when the Barnum & Bailey's Greatest Show on Earth, a circus created by P. T. Barnum and James Anthony Bailey, was merged with the Ringling Bros. World's Greatest Shows. With weakening attendance and high operating costs, the circus closed on May 21st, 2017 after 146 years.
