A Linenbacked Travel Poster (measures 25 1/4" x 39 3/4" [64 x 101 cm]) (Learn More)

TWA: Paris, the 1960s airplane airline aviation travel poster promoting tourism to Paris, France aboard TWA (Trans World Airlines) and featuring art of the Eiffel Tower surrounded by fireworks by David Klein. Note that there are three different versions of this poster, the first one is from 1962, and the others from later in the 1960s (there is one from 1967 that has a tagline, "Up, Up and Away" in the lower right, but the ad agency TWA used did not get the rights to that lyric from the Fifth Dimension song, and they were sued!).
Artist: David Klein
Important Added Info: Note that TWA made several different versions of this poster over the years (no doubt because everyone loved the David Klein Eiffel Tower art). One of the versions was recalled, as noted above. This version has the tagline "Welcome to the world of Trans World Airlines" at the bottom, which the others do not, and we have never auctioned this version of it before!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had tiny creases, tiny tears, and tiny bits of paper loss in the top and bottom of the right border. It had a smudge in the middle of the left border and a small water stain in the bottom left corner. Otherwise, the poster had bright colors and almost no defects. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
