An Original Vintage Metal Printing Plate (measures 10 1/4" x 14 1/2" [26 x 37 cm]) (Learn More)

Al Hirschfeld was a legendary American caricaturist from the 1920s to 2003. He is most famous for his line art caricatures of movie stars and celebrities over many decades. He was also married to Broadway actress and performer Dolly Haas until she passed away in 1994. Hirschfeld passed away in 2003 at the age of 99.
Artist: Al Hirschfeld
Important Added Info: Note that this is the actual printing plate that was used to print the cover of the May 21, 1950 of issue of This World (a section of the San Francisco Chronicle). Included with the heavy metal printing plate are two photocopies someone made of the cover of the newspaper article, and the three interior pages (we only pictured the cover), but the winning bidder will be able to read the story that accompanied this cover art (it was entitled "The Funny Sad Little Tramp", and it was created when City Lights was re-released in 1950, and discusses how the movie can still be viewed and enjoyed, because "words are unnecessary").

Condition: good. The metal plate has stains on both sides. It can likely be cleaned, but bear this in mind before bidding on this unusual item.
