The Snake Pit, the classic 1949 Anatole Litvak (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) psychological psychiatric mental illness romantic melodrama ("An achievement born in the raging elements of life's emotions!"; "Based on the Novel by Mary Jane Ward"; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck; about a mentally ill schizophrenic woman who is placed in a mental institution, quite daring for its time, and one of the few movies ever to give an accurate portrayal of schizophrenia and its treatment at that time; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Olivia De Havilland (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Mark Stevens, Leo Genn, Celeste Holm, Glenn Langan, Helen Craig, Leif Erickson, Beulah Bondi, Lee Patrick, Howard Freeman, Natalie Schafer, Ruth Donnelly, Katherine Locke, Frank Conroy, and Minna Gombell. Note that Betsy Blair has an important minor role as a mute patient who talks at the film's conclusion, and also note that Jan Clayton sings the song "Going Home" at a dance in the movie (this was the song that was played at FDR's funeral, and was based on both Negro spirituals and music of Antonin Dvorak).

Condition: good. There is paper loss in the left of the bottom edge of the poster (repaired with masking tape from the front and back). There are areas of separation and tattering along the foldlines and around the edges of the poster that have been repaired with clear tape from the back.
