The brand was named after Chesterfield county in Virginia and was one of the most recognized brands of the early 20th century. In the 1930s through the 1950s, Chesterfield sponsored popular radio programs and their advertisements often featured famous stars of the day, such as Humphrey Bogart, Lucille Ball, Rita Hayworth, Ronald Reagan and more If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this poster, which was a special publicity tie-in between "Sailor Beware" and Chesterfield cigarettes, and that was 8 years ago! Of course, Sailor Beware is the 1952 Hal Walker submarine Navy submariner naval military underwater sailor musical comedy ("From a play by Kenyon Nicholson and Charles Robinson") starring Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Corinne Calvet, Marion Marshall, Robert Strauss, Vince Edwards, Don Wilson, Donald MacBride, Betty Hutton (in an uncredited role as "Hetty Button"!), and James Dean (in his first role in a bit part, but of course he is completely uncredited) Condition: good to very good. The poster has two vertical folds in the left and right, and they run through the faces of the stars. The poster was designed to have its borders folded back to give extra strength on the borders, and that was done to this poster. There are creases along both folds and many creases around the edges.
