A 1948 Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Autographed One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28" x 41" [71 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Harlem on the Prairie, the 1937 Sam Newfield black African American musical singing cowboy western ("The First Musical Western with ALL COLORED CAST"; "Rootin' - Shootin' - Swing-Swing Entertainment"; "Romance Singing Music Dancing") starring Herb Jeffries (billed as "Herbert Jeffries"), Mantan Moreland, F.E. Miller (Flourney E. Miller), Spencer Williams, The Four Tones, and the Four Blackbirds. Note that Flourney Miller was a major figure in black Broadway musical history, performing and writing with his partner Aubrey Lyles. After Lyles passed away in 1933, Miller appeared in a number of all-black movies in the 1930s and 1940s. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been personally autographed (signed) by Herb Jeffries! Our consignor purchased this item (and other posters autographed by Herb Jeffries) from a married couple of poster dealers who traveled to western shows for years, and they were friends of Mr. Jeffries, and he signed several items for them. Our consignor has no certificate of authenticity, but he and we believe the signature to be surely authentic. Note that Toddy Pictures re-released this movie in the late 1940s (likely in 1948), and they produced two different one-sheets for the movie, one featuring Herb Jeffries, and one featuring Mantan Moreland (it is possible that those two one-sheets are from two different Toddy re-releases). If anyone knows more about this movie or its re-releases, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that this poster measures 28" x 41" [71 x 104 cm]. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had paper loss at the bottom crossfold and tiny paper loss at the middle crossfold. It had minor wear on the foldlines and a water stain in the left of the bottom blank border. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do much restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting (and a talented restorer could touch them up without re-backing the poster). Note that the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster. Learn More about condition grades
