An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

Mr. Washington Goes to Town, the 1941 William Beaudine black African American all-black-cast comedy (a parody of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, which had been released two years earlier) starring F.E. Miller (Flourney E. Miller), Mantan Moreland, Marguerite Whitten, Maceo Bruce Sheffield, Sam Warren, Edward Boyd, and Arthur Ray. Note that seasoned director William Beaudine actually directed this film (because he needed the money), but didn't want credit so as to avoid being associated with a low-budget all-black-cast film, so producer Jeb Buell put his name as the director on all the movie paper! Also note that Flourney Miller was a major figure in black Broadway musical history, performing and writing with his partner Aubrey Lyles. After Lyles passed away in 1933, Miller appeared in a number of all-black movies in the 1930s and 1940s.

Important Added Info: Note that ANY first release movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a few stills from the first release of this movie (and NO other first release movie paper) until we received this title lobby card! We are also currently auctioning a first release scene card in a separate auction. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

Condition: good to very good. There is a 1" tear near the center of the top border and a tiny tear in the center of the bottom border, and both were repaired with tape from the back. There it light water staining in the top left corner, with some tack holes and faint stains around the edges, and a few small stains within the image background.
