DEATHWATCH ('66) 1sh '66

Lease from Hershenson/Allen Archive

An Original Vintage One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh) (Learn More)

Jean Genet's Deathwatch, the 1966 Vic Morrow gay homosexual prison convict crime thriller ("The strangest love triangle ever filmed!"; "San Francisco International Film Festival"; "France's Poet, Criminal Madman Genius Jean Genet's Deathwatch"; "A bizarre study of three tortured and twisted men!") starring Leonard Nimoy, Michael Forest, Paul Mazursky, Gavin MacLeod, and Robert Ellenstein. Note that star Leonard Nimoy had had a starring role in "Kid Monk Baroni" in 1952, but then followed it with a very minor appearance as an alien in "Zombies of the Stratosphere" in 1952, and after little additional success in movies over the next few years (he just played bit parts), he mostly settled in as a TV actor, making a few movie appearances over the next dozen years. In 1966, Vic Morrow, who had had much success on TV's "Combat", and who had worked with Nimoy on two episodes, chose to direct a movie version of Jean Genet's homosexual prison play, "Deathwatch", and he cast Nimoy in the starring role. He also cast Paul Mazursky, who would go on to an illustrious directing career, and also Gavin McLeod, who would have much success in TV!
