An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 13 1/4" x 29 3/4" [34 x 76 cm]) (Learn More) Roadshow, the circa 1980s Australian "stock" poster created by Roadshow for use by theaters showing their movies. Theaters would order this poster, which had a large blank area. Sometimes the studio would overprint the stock poster with the title of a specific movie, and sometimes they sent a series of large paper snipes with the titles of specific entries of the series, so the theater could paste in each snipe as needed, thus getting many posters for the price of one. Sometimes stock posters are found with blank snipe areas. Most collectors consider them more valuable with a printed snipe attached, or with an overprinted snipe area. Interestingly, some Roadshow stock posters also have art and taglines overprinted which were specific to the movie being shown. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that our consignor tells us that this poster was hand-painted for use at the Wintergarden Theatre. Usually, theater owners would just hand-write the details on a stock poster but for these posters, the blank daybills were sent to a sign writer and he actually created individual hand-painted posters for various films. The artist sometimes used stock posters but often used a completely blank daybill, and these poster are likely one of a kind! Condition: fair to good.
