An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 15" x 40") (Learn More) Curly Top, the 1935 Irving Cummings orphan juvenile musical melodrama starring Shirley Temple ("She Sings, She Dances, She Charms"), John Boles, Rochelle Hudson, Jane Darwell, and Rafaela Ottiano. Note that this movie was based on a play and novel by Jean Webster from 1912. It was made into a silent movie in 1919 starring Mary Pickford, and was remade as a sound film in 1931 with Janet Gaynor, and then was significantly altered so that Shirley Temple could play the lead in this movie, and then was remade with Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron in 1955. Obviously, it is extremely unlikely that this plot will ever be used again, because in today's world, a story about a middle aged man falling in love with an 18 year old that he "adopts" is very inappropriate! Also note that this was the last movie Shirley Temple made for Fox Films. Her next movie was made after it merged with 20th Century Pictures, and became 20th Century-Fox. During that time, Fox's number one star, Will Rogers died in a plane crash, and surprisingly, Shirley Temple became the studio's new number one star! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. The poster was folded in thirds and was in pretty nice condition, except for pretty tiny areas of paper loss across the top foldline and in the left and right borders, by the two foldlines, and that paper loss extends into the edges of the image. It can be clearly seen in our super-sized image. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer linenbacked the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
