An Undated (probably 1930s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Unfolded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28 1/4" x 41" [72 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Legong: Dance of the Virgins, the 1935 Henri de la Falaise (billed as "Marquis Henri de la Falaise") Bali tropical island romantic melodrama ("True... Actually filmed in Bali"; "Native Customs. Native Music. Native Cast."; "Produced on the island of Bali under the direction of Marquis Henri de la Falaise"; "Photographed on the island of Bali under the direction of the Marquis Henri de la Falaise"; about two Balinese sisters - one who plots to keep the other from finding love; obviously, the main appeal of this was seeing near-naked Polynesian women!) starring Poetoe Aloes Goesti, Bagus Mara Goesti, Saplak Njoman, Njong Njong Njoman, and Barong Rangda If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we recently auctioned a lobby card that is surely from the very first 1935 release, and it was the only such item we have ever auctioned. In the case of this one-sheet, it is either from a 1940s re-release, or possibly from a 1930s roadshow release, when the movie played in midnight shows in small towns. Because we don't know for certain which of the above is true, we are listing it as being from 1935, but please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept the possibility that it might be from a 1940s re-release. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that this one-sheet measures 28" x 41" [71 x 104 cm].
UPDATED 04/11/2023: Note that, as seen above, we originally mentioned that this poster "is either from a 1940s re-release, or possibly from a 1930s roadshow release". However, in 2023 we were finally consigned a 1935 first release one-sheet, which proves that this poster is from a 1930s or 1940s roadshow re-release. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had a 6" horizontal crease in the bottom center running into the top of the "L" of the title. It had some scuffs and tiny surface paper loss in the bottom center of the poster. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
