An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style A Thirty by Forty Movie Poster (30x40; measures 30" x 40" [76 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) Star Wars (now known as "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope"), the classic 1977 George Lucas (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) outer space fantasy action adventure science fiction (sci-fi) epic ("A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..."; "George Lucas, the man who brought you American Graffiti now brings you an adventure as big as the cosmos itself: Star Wars, the story of a boy, a girl, and a universe. It's a spectacle light years ahead of its time from 20th Century Fox."; "Written and Directed by George Lucas"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Mark Hamill (as Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (as Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (as Princess Leia), Peter Cushing (as Grand Moff Tarkin), Alec Guinness (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Obi-Wan Kenobi), Anthony Daniels (as C-3PO), James Earl Jones (as the voice of Darth Vader), David Prowse (billed as "Dave Prowse"; as the man inside the Darth Vader suit!), Peter Mayhew (as Chewbacca), Kenny Baker (as R2-D2), and Phil Brown (as Uncle Owen) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Tom Jung Important Added Info: Note that it appears that when 20th Century Fox created 30" x 40" posters for Star Wars, they wanted to economize, and so they simply used the exact same one-sheet printing plate, which included the words "ONE SHEET - STYLE 'A'" at bottom right, and the NSS number "77/21" to the right of that, and the words "STAR WARS" below the NSS number. But that printing plate was designed for a 27" x 41" poster, and so when it was used on this 30" x 40" poster, the words "STAR WARS" at bottom right, and the tiny NSS information at bottom center were either completely cut off, or partially cut off, depending on how the image was centered on the available space (we have seen several different variations of this, and they all vary as to whether there is any of that writing at bottom, and how much there is). There are also examples of this poster that do not have this oddity, because they don't have "ONE SHEET - STYLE A" printed in the bottom right, so maybe someone noticed this and created ones without the incorrect size. It is clear that there were several different print runs of this poster (not at all surprising given how incredibly popular the movie was!), and all are considered to be from the first release, because no one knows which, if any, came first. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had some faint creases and scuffs scattered throughout. The poster was not mounted correctly, because there is an area of rippling in the top center at the top of Vader's helmet. We don't know if this can be fixed without re-backing the poster, so bear this significant defect in mind before bidding. Learn More about condition grades
