HYDE hardcover book 1931 Robert Louis Stevenson, Fredric March. w/ REPRO DJ! Date Sold 7/23/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A Vintage Hardcover Book (measures 5 1/4" x 7 3/4" [13 x 20 cm]; 234 pages) (Learn More) Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the 1931 Rouben Mamoulian double-personality fantasy monster horror thriller ("Based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson") starring Fredric March (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in both title roles; he tied with Wallace Beery who won for The Champ), Miriam Hopkins, Rose Hobart, Holmes Herbert, Edgar Norton, and Halliwell Hobbes. Note that this movie premiered in New York City on New Year's Eve 1931, and then went into general release in the U.S. in 1932. So except for that one night, it is a 1932 movie, but because it is always identified as being from 1931, we also identify it that way! That also helps explain why there is movie paper dated 1933. It was a giant hit, and the movie was surely still in its first release into 1933, and more paper was printed as it was needed. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: NOTE THAT THIS DOES NOT HAVE ITS ORIGINAL DUST JACKET, BUT RATHER IT HAS A REPRODUCTION DUST JACKET. We pictured both sides of the REPRO dust jacket, so that it will be that much more clear that it is not original. PLEASE DO NOT BID THINKING THIS BOOK HAS AN ORIGINAL DUST JACKET. Note that this is the Grosset & Dunlap photoplay edition. Here are some more details about these books: Grosset & Dunlap was a publisher that made a deal with all the studios in the 1910s to publish "movie edition" hardcovers of novels that were currently adapted into movies (there were also some by other publishers, but Grosset & Dunlap printed the lion's share of these). They would re-publish the original novel as the movie came out (or soon after), and they would put a dust jacket on the book that showed the stars of the movie, and they would include several pages of images from the movie scattered in the book. These books were incredibly popular in the 1920s and 1930s. Note that we have pictured the front cover, the title page, and the interior page that shows the publishing information, and one or more interior 2-page spreads. Condition: fair to good. The original dust jacket is missing and has been replaced with a REPRODUCTION dust jacket (see above). Learn More about condition grades
