Dante's Inferno, the 1924 Henry Otto silent surreal horror thriller ("A spectacle of drama and beauty"; "Based on the classic of literature"; "Modern story by Cyrus Woods, Adapted for the screen by Edmund Goulding"; based on the play by Dante Alighieri; about a man's journey through the gates of Hell; William Fox made a later version of this movie in 1935, and both versions of the movie are about unscrupulous businessmen who become massively successful, but have second thoughts when their behavior cause a man's suicide, and in both films, there is a long fantasy sequence depicting Dante's Hell, with writhing naked bodies!) starring Lawson Butt (as Dante), Howard Gaye (as Virgil), Pauline Starke (as Marjorie), Josef Swickard, Gloria Grey, Lon Poff, and Robert Klein. Note that the posters for this movie give the impression that the movie shows a lot of naked people writhing in agony in Hell! Looking at stills from the movie, it is obvious that the men wore tight flesh-colored shorts, and that the women wore tight bodysuits, but I imagine the movie was still shocking for its time!
