An Original Vintage Linenbacked Circus Poster (measures 21" x 37" [53 x 94 cm]) (Learn More)

Clyde Beatty-Cole Bros. Circus, the circus poster encouraging people to visit a traveling circus and featuring classic circus-themed art! The Cole Bros. Circus was founded in 1884 by William Washington Cole. In the 1930s and 1940s, the circus often worked with noted animal trainer and actor Clyde Beatty (who owned his own show). In 1957, investors merged the two into the Clyde Beatty - Cole Bros. Circus and the show became a major player in the circus industry for over 20 years.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had a diagonal fold across the upper part of the image and the poster was separated on that fold. It also had some creases above and below that fold, with some pinholes, tears, and small paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. Either something went wrong in the linenbacking, or the poster was roughly handled after it was backed, but the poster is now "lifting" from the linen along the left of that diagonal tear described above, and there are also ripples in the top area. Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept these defects.
