Like so many other boxing champs, he was signed to make movies, and he made the 1926 film The Fighting Marine! Tunney had an impressive 65 wins in his 85 fight career, and defeated Jack Dempsey twice: first in 1926, taking the world heavyweight title, and defending it again in 1927 (called "The Long Count Fight"). He passed away in 1978 at the age of 81. Important Added Info: Note that this letter (which is on Mr. Tunney's personal stationery) has been personally autographed (signed) by Gene Tunney! Included with the signed letter are two REPRODUCTION stills. Note that this comes from a wonderful collection that was assembled by a collector decades ago, mostly from RR Auctions, which has auctioned signed items since 1976. The person who purchased these items passed away several years ago, and while he did not save most of the certificates of authenticity he received when he bought these signed items, almost all were purchased between the late 1970s and the early 1990s, and we think it is extremely likely that the autograph on this item is genuine. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good.
