An Original 1949 Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (SpanUS 1sh; printed in Spanish in the U.S. for Spanish speaking audiences; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Ladri di Biciclette (released in the U.S. in 1949 as "The Bicycle Thief" and in England as "Bicycle Thieves"), the classic 1948 Vittorio De Sica Italian neorealist melodrama ("Academy Award outstanding foreign language film 1949"; about a man and his son who search for a vital missing bicycle; most people rightfully consider this one of the handful of absolute finest movies ever made!) starring Lamberto Maggiorani, Enzo Staiola, Lianella Carell, Gino Saltamerenda, and Vittorio Antonucci. Note that the Italian title literally translates to "The Bicycle Thieves", but for unknown reasons, the movie became "The Bicycle Thief" when it was released in English-speaking countries! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we can't say that this one-sheet (which was printed in the United States for use at theaters with Spanish speaking audiences, and which we have never seen before) is from the first U.S. release in 1949, but we think it is quite possible that it is. If it is not, it would surely be from the 1950s or early 1960s, because we would be very surprised if it was from the 1970s or later. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept the uncertainty as to exactly when it is from. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had stains, tears, and tiny paper loss on parts of most foldlines, with diagonal tears above and below the left end of the top horizontal fold, ending in the girl's arm. It had pinholes, stains, and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
