An Unfolded Uruguayan Special Poster (measures 15 1/4" x 34 3/4" [39 x 88 cm]) (Learn More)

1er Campeonato Mundial de Football (literally translates to "1st World Football Championship"), the 1930 Uruguayan sports football soccer poster promoting the very first FIFA World Cup championship which featured only 13 teams and was held from July 15th to August 15th at Grand Parque Central in Montevideo, Uruguay. In the final, Uruguay defeated Argentina 4-2 to become the first nation to win the World Cup. Individual posters featuring Guillermo Laborde's art were created for each match. Note that the tournament has been held every four years since the inaugural tournament in 1930 (with the exception of 1942 and 1946 due to the Second World War). The World Cup is considered the most prestigious association football tournament in the world, as well as the most widely viewed and followed single sporting event in the world.
Artist: Guillermo Laborde
Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning! This poster is specifically for the match between Belgium and the U.S. on July 13th, and posters were made for matches between different countries. The U.S. team won this match 3-0, and United States goalkeeper Jimmy Douglas posted the first clean sheet in FIFA history.

Condition: fair to good. The poster is lightly rippled and there are some dark stains scattered throughout (see our image). There are censor stamps at right in the background. Please see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this item prior to placing a bid and please do not bid unless you can accept the defects described above, or you are willing to pay to have them properly restored.
