An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, the classic 1958 Alfred Hitchcock San Francisco California suspense obsessive love crime mystery thriller ("Alfred Hitchcock's Masterpiece"; "Based upon the novel D'Entre Les Morts by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac"; "Music by Bernard Herrmann"; about a man with a fear of heights who is caught up in a murder, or is he?, and he meets a woman who looks very similar to the "dead girl", and he becomes obsessed with solving the mystery) starring James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart), Kim Novak (in a dual role), Barbara Bel Geddes, Tom Helmore, and Henry Jones. Note that John Whitney Sr. (who did the spiral title sequence for the movie) also did the spiral art for the posters from this movie, which was utilized by the poster artist Saul Bass. Also note that Alfred Hitchcock did not make a final decision on what to name this movie until the last minute! At various times, it had working titles of Darkling I Listen, Fear and Trembling, From Among the Dead, and Illicit Darkening. Many of the early advertising stills don't have a title at all, but say "An Alfred Hitchcock Production". Personally, we think "Vertigo" is a better title than any of those other four! Finally, note that critical acclaim for this movie has consistently risen in the years since it was first released. In fact, in the 2012 "Sight and Sound" poll of top movie critics, Vertigo was declared to be the number one film of all time, over Citizen Kane, and every other masterpiece! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Saul Bass Important Added Info: Note that there is controversy about the first release one-sheets from this movie. There are known examples where the primary background color is pretty much "red", and then others where the primary background color is pretty much "orange". Some people say that the poster was created with two different colors, while others say that the "orange" one-sheets are simply "red" one-sheets that were exposed to sunlight. I don't have a definitive answer, but because I have seen one-sheets in many different color ranges from pretty clearly red down to almost yellow (where the poster HAS clearly faded), that makes me feel it is possible that the posters were not printed in two different versions, but it is also possible that there were two versions, and some of each have simply faded (and this is further backed by my having seen "orange" versions that have extremely even coloring, which would seem like they were not faded at all). Also note that most collectors don't realize that Saul Bass did many different designs for this classic movie! All look very similar, with the classic swirl, but the two figures are different on many of the posters! Condition: good to very good. The poster has tiny paper loss at the bottom crossfold and the tiniest of paper loss at the other two crossfolds. It has pairs of staple holes around the edges, with a piece of white linen tape on the back of the top corners, and a piece on the back of the center of the top border, where there was small separation, and a piece on the back of the left border, at the left end of the bottom horizontal fold, where there was separation. The poster once had a piece of tape on the back of the bottom quarter of the vertical fold, and a piece of tape on the back of the center 14" of the bottom horizontal fold, as well as a piece of tape on the back of the center 8" of the bottom border, but none of that tape is still present, and none of it was put there for a restoration purpose. Fortunately, only the tape on the back of the bottom border has much effect on the front, and that tape slightly discolored the front of that area. The tape on the back of the vertical and horizontal folds described above has very slightly discolored the front, but it is not very noticeable (see our image). The poster has tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss in the left half of the bottom horizontal fold, and it has some fine surface paper loss on small parts of the rest of the folds. There are some light creases scattered throughout the poster. I went into such detail on this poster's defects only because of its value! After a simple linenbacking, the poster will look fantastic!
