SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON ('40) SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON ('40) LC OR search current auctions Auction History Result 9r980 SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON 2 LCs 1940 Thomas Mitchell, Edna Best, Freddie Bartholomew, rare! Date Sold 9/14/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 2 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Swiss Family Robinson, the 1940 Edward Ludwig shipwrecked stranded-on-a-tropical-island family adventure thriller ("Come Along to Action - Thrills and Excitement on ADVENTURE ISLAND!"; from the book of the same name by Johann David Wyss) starring Thomas Mitchell, Edna Best, Freddie Bartholomew, Terry Kilburn, Tim Holt, and Baby Bobby Quillan. Note that legend has it that when Walt Disney made their live action version of this movie in 1960, they also purchased the rights to this movie from 1940, and then destroyed all known prints, so that their version would not be compared to this! Is this urban legend or partially or completely true? Does that mean this is a "lost" film? If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that these are the first lobby cards of any type we have auctioned for this movie! Condition: good to very good. Each has a few pinholes around the edges as well as scattered in a few areas around the image. Both have a few light scuff marks scattered in various areas but overall they are in pretty nice condition. One has tape on the back (not put there for any restoration purpose) typical of vintage lobby cards. Learn More about condition grades
