An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Swedish Stock Movie Poster (measures approximately 27" x 39") (Learn More) Alan Ladd was a major leading actor from the 1930s to the 1960s. Surprisingly, he appeared in a number of movies before he became a major star with his portrayal as a hired killer in "This Gun For Hire" in 1941. Some of his movies include: Shane, The Carpetbaggers, The Glass Key, The Blue Dahlia, and Two Years Before the Mast. He married much older Sue Carol, who had been a major actress in the 1920s and early 1930s, and who had become an agent. They remained married until he passed away in 1964 at the age of 50 from a drug and alcohol overdose. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a "stock" poster created by Paramount for use by theaters showing their 1940s Alan Ladd movies. Theaters would order this poster, which had a large blank area at bottom left. Sometimes the studio would overprint the stock poster with the title of a specific movie, and sometimes they were sent a series of large paper snipes with the titles of specific entries of the series, so the theater could paste in each snipe as needed, thus getting many posters for the price of one.
