Kenton Universal genetic experimentation fantasy horror thriller ("The Panther Woman lured men on - only to destroy them - body and soul!"; "The Panther Woman -the body of a siren - the heart of a child - the soul of a cruel Jungle Killer"; loosely based on the novel 'The Island of Dr. Moreau' by H.G. Wells) starring Charles Laughton (as Dr. Moreau), Bela Lugosi, Richard Arlen, Leila Hyams (as "Ruth Thomas"), Kathleen Burke (billed as "The Panther Woman"; in her first movie role!), Arthur Hohl, Stanley Fields, Paul Hurst, and a bunch of "manimals" (half man, half animal!) Important Added Info: Note that the back of this news photo (taken by Richee), which measures 8" x 10 1/4", has information from Paramount on the back, but it also has information from Acme Photo of New York City, with a "NOV 15 1932" date from N.E.A. We did not know who the man was until a knowledgeable collector identified him as Orville Mohler, a University of Southern California football and baseball player. A 1932 news article states that he took a screen test with Kathleen Burke to play the part of The Lion Man. Later articles say that the part went to Buster Crabbe (which is unconfirmed in modern times) and mentions that Mohler and other athletes had tried out for the role. Condition: good. There are creases, smudges, and scuffs scattered throughout the still, but they are mostly only noticeable when the still is tilted to the light. Learn More about condition grades
