An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Cloth Banner Movie Poster (measures 35 1/2" x 118 1/4" [90 x 300 cm]) (Learn More) The Saturday Night Kid, the 1929 A. Edward Sutherland romantic working-girl-looking-for-wealthy-husband family relationship sisters comedy ("100 per cent all-talking"; about two sisters who work in a department store, and who both go after the same wealthy young man, but the "bad" sister, played by Jean Arthur, uses deceit to win the fellow, but ultimately, the "good" sister wins him back!) starring Clara Bow, James Hall, Edna May Oliver, Jean Arthur, Hyman Meyer, Eddie Dunn, Charles Sellon, and Jean Harlow (in an uncredited role as a salesgirl!). Note that this movie was a re-make of the 1926 "Love 'Em and Leave 'Em", which starred Evelyn Brent and Louise Brooks as the sisters, and both movies were adapted from a stage play by George Abbott. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: NOTE THAT THIS POSTER IS SO WIDE (around 10 feet!) THAT WE DON'T HAVE A PHOTOGRAPHY AREA WIDE ENOUGH TO SHOOT IT IN A SINGLE IMAGE. So we took two shots of the poster and combined them together (see our image). But of course, the poster is not in two pieces! Also note that cloth banners were made at this time for almost every movie. They were made on a thin cloth that had metal grommets inserted around the edges, so that the banner could be hung from hooks. Very few of these banners survive, and when they do, the cloth has often deteriorated to various degrees, and the metal grommets are often missing. When a banner is found in lesser condition, a restorer can linenback it, and it allows the banner to be displayed in a conventional way. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The banner had been stored folded, and there were a large number of creases and areas of deterioration along all the folds, with many creases, stains, and scuffs scattered in the rest of the poster. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. The person who linenbacked the poster chose to clean it and back it, but only doing very slight restoration to it, because the alternative would have been to repaint over the entire poster. You can clearly see its many defects, but they serve to show that this is an 85 year-old poster, and one could hope to find a better example of it, but I doubt that another one of these exists.
