Date Sold 6/30/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Folded Circus Poster (measures 30" x 77 1/2" [76 x 197 cm]) (Learn More) The Barnum & Bailey Greatest Show on Earth, the 1901 circus poster ("The world's largest, grandest, best amusement institution"; "Rare beasts and birds from every clime as seen in the Great Menagerie") featuring wonderful art of a variety of animals, including the Saddle Back Tapir, warthog, spotted leopards, and many more! Note that this poster was printed on two approximately 30" x 40" sheets designed to overlap in the middle, resulting in a single long vertical poster that measures approximately 30" x 78". This is a truly remarkable poster that is dated 1901, and has wonderful stone litho art of wild animals in the Barnum & Bailey circus! If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of a remarkable group of around 100 guaranteed authentic mostly war posters (around 75 war posters, plus 25 others, including political ones) mostly dating from before 1900 through 1945, with 15 from after that date! These were originally acquired by an archive decades ago, and they have been in storage ever since, until they were recently consigned to us. Many of these are the sorts of posters that you can find reproductions of on the Internet, but finding guaranteed originals like these is incredibly difficult (years can go by before these are offered for sale or at auction). This is a very rare opportunity to purchase any of these more than 100 posters! Condition: fair. Unfortunately, there is paper loss in the top right corner, but it is very easy to guess at exactly what is missing (it is almost surely solely the end of the word "BAILEY", with red background and a white border, so it would not be all that difficult to restore). The poster also has many tears, creases, and smudges around the edges, with many creases scattered throughout the poster, and the poster is very fragile. It absolutely needs to be restored right away, but after proper restoration, this will be a wonderful poster that deserves to be displayed in a museum! Learn More about condition grades
