Date Sold 1/18/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) The Virginian, the 1929 Victor Fleming Wyoming romantic love triangle rancher cowboy western ("Paramount's Outdoor Romance"; "See and Hear This 100% All Talking Picture"; "Based upon the novel and play by Owen Wister and Kirk LaShelle"; about a foreman of a Wyoming ranch, who brings a friend out to work for him, but then both fall in love with the same woman, and when she chooses the foreman, his friend joins the gang of the evil Trampas, and he is caught, and the foreman is in charge of lynching him!) starring Gary Cooper (in the title role as The Virginian), Walter Huston (as Trampas), Richard Arlen, Mary Brian, and Helen Ware. It was in this movie that Gary Cooper plays in a poker game, and one of the gamblers insults him, and Cooper puts his gun on the table and says "If you want to call me that... smile". Also note that this movie was made at the time when sound movies were first taking hold, and it was made in both an entirely silent version and a "100% all-talking" version (so that theaters that did not have the new sound equipment could still show the movie), and two entirely different sets of posters were made, one set for the silent version, and one set for the sound version (and those posters all have the tagline "See and Hear This 100% All Talking Picture"). Finally, note that very few people are likely aware that this is not the FIRST movie version of this novel (there had been a previous version in 1923). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: good to very good. The still has changed from its original color to a sepia color (not uncommon in older stills). The still still displays quite nicely, and many people might not realize it was not printed that way. There is black paper residue on the back of one border from when it was once attached to an album page. Otherwise, the still is in nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
