A Folded French Advertising Poster (measures 40 3/4" x 61" [104 x 155 cm]) (Learn More)

L'Humanite (literally translates to "The Humanity") is a French daily newspaper which was founded in 1904 by Jean Jaures. In 1920, it came under the control of the newly organized French Communist Party (PCF). In 1939, the newspaper ceased official publication, but it was published clandestinely during the early 1940s, including during the Nazi occupation. It resumed publication right after World War II, and at that time its circulation was its highest, but it has been in decline ever since.

Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this French advertising poster. It clearly dates from right after World War II, and one of the reproduced headlines is dated 11 October 1945, so we imagine it is surely from soon after that (perhaps from when the newspaper resumed official publication after the Nazis were kicked out of France)! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
