A 1949 Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Casablanca, the classic 1942 Michael Curtiz (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) anti-Nazi World War II (WWII) romantic love triangle melodrama ("From a play by Murray Burnett and June Alison"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award; it is interesting to note that the movie was made while World War II was being fought, and at a point when it seemed very real that Germany might take over the entire world, and in that context, the strong emotions expressed throughout the movie are all the more poignant, given what was going on in the world at that time) starring Humphrey Bogart (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as "Rick", Richard Blaine), Ingrid Bergman (as Ilsa Lund), Paul Henreid (as Victor Laszlo), Claude Rains (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Captain Renault), Conrad Veidt (as Major Strasser), Sydney Greenstreet (as Signor Ferrari), Peter Lorre (as Ugarte), S.Z. Sakall (as Carl), Dooley Wilson (as Sam), Madeleine LeBeau (as Yvonne), Leonid Kinskey (as Sascha), John Qualen (as Berger), Marcel Dalio (as Emil, the croupier at the roulette wheel), Corinna Mura (as the cabaret singer who plays the guitar and sings "La Marseillaise"), Helmut Dantine (as the young man playing roulette), and Joy Page (as Dantine's girlfriend, who is willing to sleep with Rains) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Not many people can afford the multi-thousand dollar original one-sheet from this classic movie, but this re-release one-sheet (with an attractive image, that most people would say is better than that of the first release poster) is a very attractive alternative, because it may cost a fraction as much as the original (but remember that this poster was released just seven years after the first release of the movie, and it is incredibly rare, perhaps more rare than the 1942 U.S. one-sheet). We have only auctioned this poster once before, and that was 14 years ago! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had some pinholes scattered in the image, including in the left of Bergman's mouth, with paper loss in Bergman's lower lip. It also had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and very minor wear on the foldlines. It had pinholes around the edges. It had paper loss in the top left corner (in the blank area) and paper loss in the left of the top border extending into the red background. There was a pair of staple holes in the top center in the red background area. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was expertly backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
