An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Mickey Mouse is an animated animation cartoon character created in 1928 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. He first appeared in the cartoon short Steamboat Willie which was one of the first cartoons with synchronized sound and the first cartoon to feature a fully post-produced soundtrack. He was massively merchandised in the 1930s, and was a major part of the success of the Walt Disney studio. After his starring role in Fantasia (in the Sorcerer's Apprentice sequence), his popularity waned somewhat, but he remained the mascot of the studio, and has always been central to the studio (for example, Disney had a "Mickey Mouse Club" TV show where the children wore mouse ears). Important Added Info: Note that starting in 1929, Walt Disney had an annual "Mickey Mouse birthday celebration". This wonderful still is surely from one no later than the 1930s, but we can't say exactly when it was from, because we have never seen it before. However, a knowledgeable collector tells us that this image was used as the cover of Mickey Mouse Magazine in October 1936. Also note that this still (and a number of other stills we are currently auctioning, both individuals and sets) was found in the files of the Disney studios in London. These include a number of extremely rare stills (some English and some U.S.), including ones we have never auctioned before! All of the stills we are auctioning from this "find" have this paragraph on them. Also note that this still measures 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm]. Condition: very good to fine. The still has faint creases around the edges Learn More about condition grades
