An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) The Monkey Talks, the 1927 Raoul Walsh silent circus big top inter-species romantic fantasy melodrama (based on the novel by Rene Fauchois; about a down and out man who puts on an elaborate chimpanzee costume, and then puts dress clothes on over it, and his friends exhibit him as a "talking monkey", which works, but then they "sell" him to a beautiful woman, who inexplicably starts falling for the monkey!) starring Olive Borden, Jacques Lerner, Don Alvarado, Malcolm Waite, Raymond Hitchcock, Ted McNamara, and Jane Winton. Note that there had previously been a stage play version of this story, which starred Jacques Lerner, who was a small man who did a great impersonation of a chimpanzee (but which is called a "monkey" throughout the movie). The movie re-created the stage play version, and the chimp makeup was created and applied by Jack Pierce, in his first movie assignment (perhaps he also did the makeup for the stage play). Of course, later, Pierce would be the man behind all of the best makeup in the 1930s Universal horror movies, including Frankenstein and Dracula. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock. Condition: good to very good. There are some tiny pinholes down the left edge of the tapestry in the background and in the right edge of the image background, with some faint smudges and scuffs scattered throughout the still, but they are mostly only noticeable when the still is tilted to the light.
