Date Sold 11/8/2015Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original 1950 (from the first MPEA release of this movie in Japan; see below) Vintage Theatrical Six Page Japanese Press Sheet Movie Poster (measures 7 1/4" x 10" [18 x 25 cm] when folded; 10" x 21 3/4" when fully opened) (Learn More) Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff, the 1949 Charles Barton screwball horror comedy ("More Ghoulish glee... Than when they met Frankenstein!"; "Help") starring Bud Abbott, Lou Costello (Abbott and Costello), Boris Karloff, Lenore Aubert, and Gar Moore. Note that this movie was originally titled "Easy Does It", and it was intended to be a Bob Hope comedy! However, the movie "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" had just come out and was a huge hit, and Universal reworked the script for Abbott & Costello, and changed the title to "Abbott and Costello Meet the Killers"! In that script, the lead villain was a FEMALE character named "Madame Switzer"! Five days before shooting began, Boris Karloff was hired, and the character became a swami, and the title of the movie was changed yet again, to include Boris Karloff's name! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that the IMDb says this movie was not released in Japan until March 1951, but we believe that to be incorrect, because of the "MPEA" logo printed on the poster (see below). We have never seen a poster with the MPEA logo that was from after 1950, so we strongly suspect that the IMDb is wrong in this case (and probably the poster is from 1950). Also note that, immediately after World War II, the U.S. occupied Japan and part of Germany, and many American movies were shown in both countries between 1945 and the end of the occupation. Most of the Japanese posters we have seen from that period and many of the German posters and programs from the same period have a "Motion Picture Export Association" circular printed logo on the poster or program, and apparently this was a program run in conjunction with the U.S. government. Since there were many U.S. servicemen in Japan and Germany at this time, many of these posters and programs have the title written in both Japanese (or German) and in English, and they are from the first release of that movie in that country. Also note that the back of this press sheet has an image of Elizabeth Taylor on it (sometimes these press sheets would have a "preview" of a coming movie!). Also note that this press sheet is printed on a single sheet that has been tri-folded to create "six" pages. Condition: very good. The press sheet has some minor wear around the edges.
