Note that director Grigori Aleksandrov was a very major figure in early Russian cinema! He was an actor, writer, and a director, and he worked closely with Sergei Eisenstein, including on his masterpieces Battleship Potemkin and October (Ten Days That Shook the World), and he alone directed Volga-Volga, The Circus, and many more. This movie celebrates the "proletariat", and it fell out of favor with Stalin in the early 1940s, as did the director. The movie still exists, and there are several different versions that were reconstructed. This movie and this director both need to be "rediscovered"!
