An Original Vintage Sheet Music (measures 10 1/2" x 14" [27 x 36 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) A Signal From Mars, the 1901 Raymond Taylor science fiction (sci-fi) fantasy sheet music ("March and Two Step") featuring art of Martians watching the Earth though a telescope! Note that this sheet music was written by Edward Taylor Paull (E.T. Paull). He got his start in 1894 with "The Chariot Race or Ben-Hur March", and he went on to write a long series of marches, and he self published the sheet music for them, all of which had wonderful five-color covers, which he designed himself! He was most prolific in the late 1890s, but he continued writing and publishing marches through 1924, when he passed away, and one was published in 1926 after his passing. This sheet music was his only science fiction or fantasy related composition, and it apparently sold really well, so we are not sure why he did not do any others. It seems that it would surely have been one of the very first science fiction/fantasy stories dealing with Martians living on Mars, and we don't know if Mr. Paull originated the concept, or if he adapted someone else's concept, and we also don't know if this was ever made into a story, book, movie, or was used in any other media. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: poor to fair. There is significant paper loss in the lower right of the front cover, and some other defects scattered throughout the sheet music. Please do not bid on this unless you can accept its defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
