An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Chapter #13 (The Surprise Attack) One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Ruth of the Rockies, the 1920 George Marshall silent adventure melodrama serial ("From the novel 'Broadway Bab' by Johnston McCulley"; about a woman who finds a trunk full of stolen diamonds, and she takes them out west, under hot pursuit by the crooks who stole them originally) starring Ruth Roland, Herbert Heyes, Fred Burns, Thomas G. Lingham, Norma Bichole, William Gillis, Jack Rollens, Gilbert Holmes, Harry Maynard, S.J. Bingham, and Al Hoxie. Note that Ruth Roland was second only to Pearl White as being best remembered from silent serials of the 1910s. She started in movies in 1909, but in 1915, after the great success of White's "The Perils of Pauline" the previous year, Roland starred in her own 14 episode serial called "The Red Circle", and she went on to make six more serials for Pathe. After 1925, she only appeared in three more movies, returning to the stage where she had performed before entering movies. She passed away in 1937 from cancer, at just 45 years of age.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss in the top quarter of the vertical fold and in the top horizontal fold, with minor wear on the other folds. It had some paper loss in the middle of the left blank border and some tiny paper loss in the rest of the borders. It had some writing on the back of the top center that slightly bled through to the front. Someone backed the poster onto a thin linen with no excess on the left or right, and no restoration. If I owned this wonderful poster, I would surely immediately have it removed from the old linen and properly backed. Afterwards, it will look fantastic, and require very little paint restoration anywhere in the image.
