An Original 1950 (from the first German release of this movie) Vintage German Film Program (measures 7 1/4" x 10 1/2"; 4 pages) (Learn More) The Fugitive, the 1947 John Ford Mexican/U.S. south-of-the-border crime melodrama ("Betrayed ...By men of evil for a handful of silver! Befriended ...By a woman, who alone dared shield him from doom!"; "Based on the novel by Graham Greene"; set in Central America, about a priest who is wanted by the authorities who had denounced Christianity) starring Henry Fonda, Dolores Del Rio, Pedro Armendariz, J. Carrol Naish, Leo Carrillo, Ward Bond, Robert Armstrong, and John Qualen. Note that this movie deals with all Central American characters, but director John Ford chose to cast a non-Latino actor, Henry Fonda, in the lead role, thus diminishing the power of the movie. This reluctance on Hollywood's part to use Latino actors in lead roles continued for many years. In 1961, there was a new version of this movie, filmed for television under the title of the source novel, "The Power and the Glory", and once again, an Anglo actor (Laurence Olivier) played the lead role!
