An Original Vintage Tri-Folded Special Movie Poster (measures 29 1/4" x 42") (Learn More) The Gorilla, the 1927 Alfred Santell silent monster murder horror thriller ("Ah!"; "Don't worry about the Gorilla - Mulligan and Garrity are on the job!"; loosely based on the play by Ralph Spence, one of the earliest "haunted house" type plays; by the time it was made into a movie, its plot had become so cliched that this movie plays it for laughs, and was apparently quite funny, and quite successful!) starring Charles Murray (billed as "Charley Murray"; as Garrity), Fred Kelsey (as Mulligan), Alice Day, Tully Marshall, Claude Gillingwater, Walter Pidgeon, Brooks Benedict, Syd Crossley, and John Kolb (uncredited, as the man in the gorilla suit). Note that Walter Pidgeon plays a handsome young man in this movie who is not what he seems, and that is an important plot twist. Oddly, three years later, First National remade this movie, and they significantly changed plot elements. The lead lady and the cast also changed, EXCEPT for Walter Pidgeon, but oddly, his character was quite a bit changed! Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster was printed by the "Buck Printing Co." of Boston, and is not a studio-issued poster. There were many companies in the 1920s and 1930s that printed alternate posters for use by theaters. Sometimes those posters were less expensive than the regular studio posters, and they were also much in demand when a theater needed posters in a hurry, for no theater wanted to show movies without displaying posters! Also note that this poster was tri-folded only (which means there is no vertical machine fold) but because it would be more expensive to send flat, it will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good. The poster has become somewhat brittle with age and there is tattering and paper loss around the edges of the poster and there are a few tears along the foldlines. The poster is otherwise in pretty nice condition especially considering its age! Learn More about condition grades
