An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22") (Learn More) Jesse James, the classic 1939 Henry King Missouri biographical outlaw cowboy western ("You won't get a cash reward. But you'll see the greatest picture in years - when you see Jesse James"; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck; a highly fictionalized biography of the James brothers, and if you only saw this movie, you would think they were really nice heroic misunderstood guys who happened to rob a few banks and trains!; note that the movie ends with Jesse's brother Frank still alive, obviously so that 20th Century Fox could make their 1941 sequel, "The Return of Frank James"!) starring Tyrone Power Jr. (in the title role as Jesse James), Henry Fonda (as Frank James), Nancy Kelly, Randolph Scott, Henry Hull, Slim Summerville, J. Edward Bromberg, Brian Donlevy, John Carradine (as Bob Ford), Donald Meek, John Russell (as Jesse James Jr.), and Jane Darwell NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? "Paperbacking" is a process that is used to preserve movie posters (the best restorers de-acidify the poster during the restoration process), and to make them easier to display (it is easier and less expensive to frame a paperbacked poster, but not quite as easy as it is to frame a linenbacked poster). When paperbacking is done correctly, it adds to the value of the poster, and is NOT a defect! Note that the specific poster in this auction was well paperbacked, but the restorer did not attempt to make the poster look "perfect". You may still see some slight evidence of the restoration and/or the defects when you look at the poster from inches away, and you may be able to see slight signs of restoration even from a distance. But the poster now looks quite nice, and I think most collectors would be quite happy to display this poster on their wall. In general, know that we received many of the paperbacked posters we are currently selling already paperbacked, but we have examined every poster EXTREMELY carefully, and we did our best to describe what condition the poster was in PRIOR to restoration, the defects the poster had PRIOR to restoration (in the "Pre-Restoration Defects & Quality of Restoration" section), any unrestored defects, and, when it seemed worth noting, something about the quality of the restoration itself. Many other auction houses claim to match what we do in this area, but EVERY person who regularly buys movie posters from major auctions can tell you this is just not the case! We never intentionally overgrade a single item, we never "accidentally" miss defects, and we never enhance a single image! Condition: very good. The poster had creases, tiny tears, and tiny areas of paper loss in the blank borders and there were some scuffs scattered in the image. There was a 2" tear in the lower right border extending into the top of the second "T" of "SCOTT". Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was nicely backed (with mostly border restoration), and displays well! Note that you can see faint scuffing in the image when you tilt it to the light, but from straight on, you don't notice it at all. Learn More about condition grades
