An Original 1944 (from the first release of this movie in Russia) Vintage Theatrical Folded Russian Movie Poster (measures 20 1/2" x 26 3/4" [52 x 68 cm]) (Learn More) Edison, The Man, the 1940 Clarence Brown historical biographical melodrama sequel ("Spencer Tracy's Greatest Performance"; about the recollections of the famous inventor Thomas Edison; a sequel of sorts to "Young Tom Edison", and of course, highly fictionalized) starring Spencer Tracy (in the title role as Thomas Edison; "His Greatest performance! Thrilling! Dramatic!"), Rita Johnson, Lynne Overman, Charles Coburn, Gene Lockhart, Henry Travers, and Felix Bressart NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this Russian poster! This movie was released in Russia in 1944, when there was a massive paper shortage due to World War II. Many posters at that time were printed on the back of other posters, or sections of other posters. This particular poster was printed on the back of part of another poster that had originally been printed in 1941. Because it was printed on the back of another poster, it shows through in various parts of the poster (mostly as a sort of light "ghosting"). See our image to better see exactly what bleed-through there is. Also note that the poster has an artist's signature on it, but we cannot read it. If anyone knows the name of this artist, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Finally, note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Note that this poster is one of a collection of 36 similar posters that we were consigned (and are currently auctioning in 36 separate auctions). They include Russian, Uzbek, Ukranian, and Latvian posters, and some of them are movie posters, and others are circus posters, with a few other kinds of posters. All of these posters are incredibly rare, and on the vast majority of them, we have never auctioned them before, and it may be many years before we auction any of them again. This is a rare opportunity to purchase one or more of these posters, all of which have very striking images! Condition: very good. There are blue smudges around the edges, which are a minor printing defect. The poster was printed on the back of part of another poster (see above), but it really has almost no effect on the front.
