An Original Vintage Stage Play Window Card Poster (WC; measures 13 1/2" x 22 1/4" [34 x 57 cm]) (Learn More)

Porgy, the 1927 Rouben Mamoulian stage play production (about a black African American man from Charleston, South Carolina who has a great love, and when she leaves him, he is reduced to being a beggar in the street; based on the real life Samuel Smalls) held at Ford's Theater in Baltimore, Maryland starting on Monday, March 18th (a novel written "by DuBose & Dorothy Heyward") starring Frank Wilson (in the title role as Porgy), Evelyn Ellis (as Bess), and Percy Verwayne (as Sporting Life). Note that the original novel was called "Porgy" and was written by DuBose Heyward in 1925. In 1927, his wife Dorothy helped him turn it into a stage play. In 1935, George and Ira Gershwin turned it into an opera, and they called it "Porgy and Bess" to distinguish it from the earlier play, but it was in fact based on the play, and not the novel (there were significant differences between the two).

Artist: Simonson
Important Added Info: Note that we don't know if this window card was created for use at one of the performances of this show, or if it was sold commercially. If anyone knows more about this window card, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Condition: good. Someone glued the card to a heavy mat. Before it was glued, the card was folded across the middle and there were creases along that fold and slight separation at the left of that fold. There was some faint water staining scattered throughout the card. There were some tiny tears, smudges, and scuffs around the edges of the card. No restoration was performed, but this really cool card displays fantastically just as it is!
