An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Campaign Book (measures 11 1/2" x 14 1/4" [29 x 36 cm]; 52 pages) (Learn More) RKO Campaign Book, this 1940 - 1941 spiral-bound campaign book features illustrated ads of: Orson Welles in "John Citizen, U.S.A." (Citizen Kane's original working title!), Cary Grant in "Passport To Life", an ad for 18 Walt Disney cartoons, Li'l Abner, and Ronald Colman in "One Production", plus ads for all of the other top RKO titles and stars of that coming year including Carole Lombard in "Mr. and Mrs. Smith", Ginger Rogers in "Tom, Dick, and Harry", a great ad for "The Saint's Vacation", Jean Arthur in "The Devil and Miss Jones", Ginger Rogers and Kitty Foyle, and much more! This is one of the nicest of the studio yearbooks produced in the 1940s. Even though most of the interior pages are sepia, there is a lot of artwork interspersed with the photographic images, and there are two cool die-cut inserts attached to the ads for "Kitty Foyle and Sister Carrie". The entire book is professionally bound with a spiral binding, which allows you to lay the book open flat without damaging the pages (something most other yearbooks do not have). Of course, the highlight of the volume is the ad for what RKO was hoping would be a giant hit, "Citizen Kane", although at that time, the movie was still known by its original title of "John Citizen, U.S.A.". The ad has a great image of the young Orson Welles, and reads, "Orson Welles in John Citizen, U.S.A. and One Other Production"! We have included images of the front cover of the book and many of the two-page spreads (but we wish we could have photographed the entire book, because there are so many great images!). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: good. Something was glued to the front and back of the first interior page, and also the next facing page, and whatever it was roughly removed, leaving much paper residue around the edges of those pages. The next interior page (which has a portrait of Ginger Rogers) has a strip of surface paper loss down the left and smudges down the right. The other interior pages are in pretty nice condition, including the "Citizen Kane" page. There is scuffing on the covers. Learn More about condition grades
