An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 47 1/4" x 62 3/4" [120 x 159 cm]) (Learn More) Alfred Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief, the 1955 Alfred Hitchcock romantic crime mystery thriller ("It's a web of romance and suspense that spins you from delight to danger - then spirals to an explosive climax on the fabulous Riviera!"; "Based on the novel by David Dodge"; "Screenplay by John Michael Hayes"; about a retired jewel thief living on the Riviera, and there is a string of daring jewel robberies, so naturally, he is the lead suspect, and he decides to find the true thief himself, and he is aided by a beautiful rich young woman and her mother!) starring Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, Jessie Royce Landis, John Williams, Charles Vanel, Brigitte Auber, Rene Blancard, Georgette Anys, and Jean Martinelli. Note that Cary Grant had announced his retirement from movies in 1953, but he was lured out of retirement by Hitchcock to make this one. Also note that Jessie Royce Landis, who had played Grant's mother in "North by Northwest", this time played his potential mother-in-law, and yet, she was only eight years older than Grant, who had aged very well! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Boris Grinsson Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had small paper loss at some crossfolds and some creases, tears, and tiny paper loss on parts of some foldlines. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but at some point after it was backed, it acquired some faint brown dot staining scattered throughout (but it is really mostly only noticeable in the borders and slightly in the white background areas). There is similar faint brown dot staining all over the back of the linen. Certainly, I could imagine collectors displaying this poster just as it is, or it could be re-backed and restored, but please read our description above and look at our super-sized image before placing a bid on this poster.
