An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style B One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) The Terror, the 1928 Roy Del Ruth London England horror mystery haunted house thriller ("From the play by Edgar Wallace"; the then very popular plot of having a group of very difficult people brought together at a spooky house, and there is a mysterious person called "The Terror", who is terrorizing them; one of the very first "talking" pictures; it had a synchronized talking soundtrack on Vitaphone discs, which were like records, and had to be played on a disc player, and the hope was that the movie and discs would stay exactly synchronized throughout the entire movie, but that did not work very well!) starring May McAvoy, Louise Fazenda, Edward Everett Horton, Alec B. Francis, Mathew Betz, Holmes Herbert, and John Miljan. Note that even the credits were read aloud (by Conrad Nagel, who was himself not credited). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and it had defects which were repaired during the linenbacking process (which we describe below, as well as the quality of the restoration, if I thought there was something about the restoration worth commenting on!). You should also look at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). the poster had an extra horizontal foldline halfway between the bottom foldline and the bottom of the image; a long scratch running from the middle of Fazenda's credit down to the top of Horton's hat; there were creases and a few small tears along the foldlines. The poster had missing pieces and tears in the blank borders, and the person who did the restoration put new blank white paper over all the borders to even out the appearance (but the small writing at the bottom of the poster was not covered over). This is a common technique used by several top restorers. It is done so well that the majority of collectors are not even aware it has been done, and many do not feel it to be a significant detraction (since it is only blank white area).
